Doudou and the gardeners have sat down near the well.
“ You know Doudou, says the oldest gardener, here in Mauritania, it rains rarely, but when the rain is falling down in the mountains, it flows down to the desert then disappears under the sand to continue flowing in the wadis. There are many wadis in the desert, and by digging wells, we manage to recover the water wich is under the sand…
- And do you need to dig deep? asks Doudou.
- It depends upon the place and season, but don’t fall in this well, it is very deep !
- And where is going all this water flowing in the wadis?
- It depends, says the man, sometimes it gets lost in the sands, sometimes it comes out and make an oasis…
- An oasis? What is an oasis? I wish I could see an oasis, says Doudou.
- For sure, you ask a lot of questions little bear. Ask your camel-driver friend Ahmed to lead you to the El Berbera oasis, it’s only two days walk away from here…”
