After a few hours of
hiking in the jungle, we arrive at the Hmongs village, the mountains people.
Doudou and Valérie meet Sin-Pan’s grandmother and explain her the reason of
our coming. Unfortunately, the grandmother, who is headman’s wife, has bad
news for us : « there are nearly no more elephants in
Laos ! In the past, elephants used to help humans to
carry wood in the jungle. But now, there are big machines to do this job.
Elephants don’t work any more. If you want to see them, go down the mountain
and cross rice fields. There you may meet elephants carrying people on their
back...
- But what is the way ? Asks Doudou.
- It’s a very long way Doudou !... and it’s quite
late, stay here and sleep in my house...
