In the village of the rice raisers, we meet children once again. The oldest girl who carries her small brother in arms is called Ban. Everywhere she goes playing with her friends, she carries him. Doudou is intrigated: « why do you carry this baby all the time in your arms ? Asks Doudou.
- This is my small brother, answers Ban, someone has to take care of him while my parents are working in fields ! Here, in Laos, the oldest children often takes care of the youngest one.
- It’s a great custom, says Doudou. In France, when the moms have to work, young babies go to the day nursery or to the nanny.
- What is a nanny ? Asks Ban.
- Whew !... This is a substitution mom...
- So I’m a nanny ?
- Yes, and you are even a great nanny because you take care of your young brother very well...
- Thank you, says Ban, what you say is very pleasant to me, and she goes away by hopping and singing :
« I am a great nanny, I am a great nanny, I am a great nanny... »
With all this nanny's stories, Doudou almost forgot what he had come for. He has forgotten to ask Ban for elephants.
- How can I find them ? Doudou sighs... At the same moment, over his head, a small nasal voice answers : « me, I know... »
