While waddling, the elephant tell : « long time ago, at my grandfather’s grandfather time, Laos elephants were wild. They used to live in herd in the jungle and knew very well how to manage to live by themselves. They knew all the plants in the jungle and knew which one they could eat. But one day, humans came to take them. They domesticated elephants and taught them to work.
- What kind of work ? Asks Doudou.
- Humans wanted to cut trees. During many years, humans and elephants worked together in the jungle. Humans cut down trees and we carried them with our trunk. But now, humans don’t need us anymore because the wood is now carried by machines, transporters and trucks, so we stay in our enclosed plot of land. »
